Dear Friend,

Greetings and welcome to Early Music Michigan 2017-2018. We have an exciting 21th season coming up and are eager to share it with you. Early Music Michigan has specialized in bringing you rarely performed music dating back hundreds of years, as well as music from our own time, performed in beautiful spaces with wonderful acoustics. We continue that tradition with the following performances this season:

The French Organ Mass
Friday, November 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM
St. Augustine Cathedral, Kalamazoo
Tickets: No Charge

A collaboration with the Michigan Festival of Sacred Music, with organist, Kevin Vaughn. The featured work is Messe de la Toussaint, by Gaston Litaize (1909-1991).

A Medieval Ceremony of Carols
Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 7:30 PM
First Congregational Church, Kalamazoo
Tickets: Adult $20 Student $5

With a nod to Benjamin Britten, we explore the carol, and its ancient roots. The carol is one of those rare musical forms that never went away, and remains popular to this day throughout the world. Music of Ambrose (c. 340-397), Prudentius (348-c. 413), Henry the VIII (1491-1547), and Praetorius (1571-1621) sit alongside other fine examples over the years to the modern era.

A Medieval Musical Mystery, with Modern Movement
Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 7:30 PM
First Baptist Church, Kalamazoo
Tickets: Adult $20 Student $5

The centerpiece is the ancient liturgical drama known as the Visitatio (Visit). In this performance, the drama is portrayed in modern dance movement, accompanied by the voices and instruments. Additional musical interludes are added to amplify the dramatic action.
